Projects: Dotee Dolls & New ATCs

Hey everyone!

Between the holidays and a recent personal health scare, I haven't updated this blog in awhile. The good news is that I'm back in action! Today I'm just going to show you my most recent Artist Trading Cards and a new craft I've recently discovered, Dotee dolls!

Let's start with a few ATCs. I'm including detailed descriptions for each card.

"Blue Skies": Two cardboard frames surround images of a butterfly and a ladybug, which have been attached to a blue and silver alcohol-inked background; the words "Blue skies up above" have been added as accents.

"create": A tissue paper background hosts a collage of cardstock die-cuts, paper deco-tape, and glittery letters.

"Silver Flowers": Various plastic die-cuts are attached to the silver inked background with silver-tone brads.

"Winter":Paper snowflakes have been glued to the acrylic painted blue background and accented with gemmed brads.

"The Great Escape": International stamps have been attached to a simple green-inked background and have been stamped over with an inked image; a 3-D clear plastic sticker says, "the great escape".

Now on to Dotee Dolls! These are interesting little dolls that are meant to only be given away or traded, not sold! They're really easy to make so they're very addicting once you get started. You can search www.flickr.com for "Dotee" and come up with a few thousand images showing the variety of these adorable little dolls.

Here's what Wikipedia says about Dotees, "A dotee is a type of small handmade fabric doll ranging in size from 3"-7". They have a face, tail and hanger with no arms or legs. Tail and body of the doll may be decorated with various items, like ribbons and beads. Dotee dolls were originally created by Dorothy Christian."

Without further adieu, here are my first four completed Dotees (in the order I made them):

I'm looking for names for these four Dotee dolls so I'd love to get your ideas!! Also, if anyone is interested in a basic Dotee tutorial, just let me know and I'll try to create one soon!

Thanks for reading!

  1. Hi!!!

I would love a tutorial for the Dotees!! I am craft challenged :) and I dont know how to sew too much so I dont know how to handle a sewing machine, but I am confident I might be able to learn some stitches by hand. Would it be possible for you to make a tutorial with a step by step image how you put the body together? I would appreciate it so much. Also I don't know where to get the complements of the dollies. Some hints and tips of where to get these online would be great! Thanks for sharing your talent.

    xoxo
